Budget (including currency): What ever it takes (within reason)

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Minecraft, Microsoft Flight Simulator (The new one) Battlefield 2042, some light video editing, No Mans Sky

Other details

So I have an Intel Core i7 thunderbolt laptop with Iris Xe integrated graphics, and I want to boost its performance. My my integrated graphics doesn't have enough VRAM to play most of the games I want to play. I originally wanted to buy an eGPU or build one with a better graphics card, but I was told that would waste a lot of performance. I want to play higher quality Minecraft, Microsoft Flight Simulator (The new one) Battlefield 2042 and maybe mine some ether on the side casually. Should I set up a server with a GPU, is that even possible? Should I get a eGPU? Help! What do I do?

Your only options are getting an eGPU or getting a computer actually made for what you want to do. With the games you've listed and the fact that you want to do video editing and I'm guessing recording gameplay and possibly streaming. You need to just drop the using your current laptop idea, it's not a gaming laptop, It's a home laptop with integrated graphics. List a budget so that users here can put a part list together for you and help you look for preferably a desktop gaming computer or if absolutely needed for portability a gaming laptop.

Probably should of taken this topic to the forums for recommendations before buying the laptop in the first place so you wouldn't be in this situation.

These options are high effort and can take a lot of work to get working right. (server, eGPU, etc.)

Best option for the least money to vastly increase gaming performance is buy a 11th gen or 12th gen Core i5, or any 6 core and up Ryzen CPU, you can get one used for $3-500. I got an HP Envy with 16GB RAM, 400w PSU, 1TB NVMe, and a Core i7 10700. I got mine for $340. Then I bought a 6600XT and this PC plays any game on my 1080p display perfectly at max or almost max settings, and best of all I'm only about $800 into this computer and it is no slouch. It competes with gaming prebuilts in the +$1000 price point easily.

That being said, I would retire the laptop and goto a desktop. They offer better performance and upgradeability (which you seem to need) and at a similar price.

HP x360 14, Core Ultra 5, 16GB
