Laptop freezes up

Title..

 

I got an asus zenbook about 5-6 years old, i7-7500U with 16gb of ram

 

Problem is, it freezes up recently.  by freeze up i mean it starts to lag and freezes for a few seconds.

 

I tried monitoring cpu/ram usage as well as temps but nothing.  it even freezes up 5-10mins into start and low temps (~40s), and even if ram/cpu usage is like 10-20%. 

 

I've tried disabling throttling, scanned for viruses, even reformatted... but nothing is helping.

maybe its the hard drive (SSD), any way to test that? Read/write speeds seem ok..

 

edit: power settings are all good too, max performance cooling etc.

Main PC: 4690k // Z97 // R9 280 3GB // 8gb Ram // CM Elite 430 Case // 750 EVGA B PSU // 1TB HDD

 

Living Room "Console" PC: FX 8350 // 990a SLI Krait // R7 360 // 8gb Ram // HAF 912 // 750 EVGA B PSU // 1TB HDD

 

Future Plans:

find a 2nd monitor at a pawn shop

Sell/giveaway R7 360, move r9 280 into console PC, buy a better GPU for main PC.

Ok, the same tools work.

 

Also, I'd recommend checking the RAM using PassMark Mmetest86.

The old version HDTune isn't reliable for SSD-s, it was made a long time ago, long before SSD-s.

It's good only for checking bad sectors (full health scan).

 

What does Hard Disk Sentinel say? I find it the most reliable.

full health scan showed no errors

 

hard disk sentinal download keeps failing half way, hvent gotten it to work yet
