RTX 3080 10GB FTW3 vs RTX 3080 12GB XC3 Ultra

rbhatta

Hello all,

I'm stuck in a dilemma, and im not sure what to do.

Thanks to the recent restocks i managed to find a EVGA RTX 3080 12GB XC3 ultra for 979 USD before taxes, and i pounced at that deal and bought it. However, because of a delay from UPS, the GPU got shipped a day later than when i had to leave the city i had the card delivered in, and my wife cant get the card to me for at least 2-3 weeks.

Today i got a notification from EVGA that the EVGA rtx 3080 10 GB FTW3 version is in stock, and that i have 20 hrs to buy it, and the price is 919$, plus 45$ in shipping the gpu to canada where i live.

Should i just wait for my wife to bring the xc3 to me as it is the 12GB version, or should i get the FTW3 10 gig version and return the XC3 ultra?

Thank you!

It depends on the rest of your system.

The FTW3 Ultra uses 400 watts stock

The XC3 Ultra uses 350 watts stock.

The XC3 is not hard to cool.

The FTW3 Ultra is very hard to cool.

The XC3 ultra cards this gen have really really bad cooling.

I have a 750 Watt psu, and currently an i5-8400 😛. i'll upgrade the other components too, but slowly.

Also, i thought FTW3 ultra has better cooling than xc3 ultra. is it not?

Deffently wait for your wife to get the xc3. You are better of with 12 gb vram than 10 gb vram. I have the FTW 3 card and 10 gb vram is not to much, specially for 4k.

So my sound advice is go for the 12 gb version. It will last you longer. It's not fun to run out of vram, it's a laggy mess to do so.

Ftz 3 need better cooling do to higher factory oc with 380 watt and power target can be raised to 400 watt. But you know what, 3080 12 gb is just as fast or faster. Do to more vram broadband and a few extra Cuda cores. So 3080 12 gb all the way.

I have the 3080 ti versions of both and they have the same power limit as the 3080 versions.

I had my XC3 in a Cooler Master H500P Mesh and it was at 75c gaming. With the FTW3 it went up to 83c. I ended up replacing the case.

The FTW3 3080 is about the same size as my FTW3 2080 ti but uses 100 watts more.
