Hi, I recently noticed that my CPU has been at high temps compared to what I usually play at. I'm used to playing Rainbow Six Siege at no more than 50 degrees on my CPU and maybe hit 60 on my GPU but now my game will start with my CPU under 50 then after 5-10 mins of playing it will rise to 70 degrees. Also my GPU is barely being used while this is happening. I know 70 degrees is a safe temp for a CPU but its not normal for mine to hit that after playing at under 60. On Pub G it will also do the same thing. As soon as I tab out of rainbow when it hits 70 degrees, it will instantly drop to under 50 degrees. I have re pasted my CPU but it hasn't changed anything. My PC is sitting right next to my window so it has max air getting to it and my room isn't hotter than 20 degrees.

My PC specs:

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600x

GPU: EVGA GeForce RTX 2060 Super

Motherboard: MSI B450M PRO-VDH MAX

RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 16 GB DDR4 3600 MHz

Cooling: NZXT Kraken M22

Case Fans: 3 on the front and my AIO fan at the rear.

Any help and information would be appreciated, Thanks!

it's only a 120mm rad, i know you say the higher temps aren't normal, but they aren't bad or at all surprising for that setup. if you have already tried re-pasting without better temps, there isn't much else to try, maybe messing with a custom fan curve could help.

But there is no reason why my CPU is hitting that high and my GPU isn't really being used, surely there is a way to equalise both.

are you seeing lower fps than normal in game? what cpu usage are you seeing in game? did you change anything at all on the system recently, like a different resolution monitor?

OP doesn't mention case model. Does the case have intake filters? They could be clogging with dust, as could anything else dependent on airflow, as filters don't stop everything. Rise in ambient temp is also common for this time of year and could be a factor as well. But with a liquid system, weak or failing pump is always a possibility.

So when I uncap my fps I get around 140 but i usually cap it at 120. My my game hits 70 degrees my CPU will be at 70% usage. I've only changed my power plan from balanced to power saver because it lowers my temps. Haven't changed my res.

Air can flow through the top but I have no fans there. I also fully cleaned my pc when I pasted it.

you changed the power plan before, or after, the temp increase? i would look into your fan curves, it's the only thing i can really suggest at the moment. @An0maly_76's suggestion could be possible, but i would expect a temp increase over a long period of time, not sudden.

And has this change of power plan altered your temps? (Or did you do this after you noticed the higher temps?)

If you have airflow capability through the top and do not have fans installed there, you really should, your cooling system will work MUCH better than it does.

That depends. Most people won't notice a 2-3C change. Anyone would notice a 10-15C change. To quote Dr. Harry Dalton from Dante's Peak -- "If you put a frog in boiling water, it will jump right out. But if you put the frog in cold water, and heat it slowly to boiling point, it will sit there and boil to death."

I changed the power plan after I noticed the increase. Also what do you mean by fan curves?

Something like this I use in iCUE.... And it keeps my air-cooled 5900X around 76C under full load with Cinebench R23.

I also use iCUE but I don't see this.

This is a step-by-step visual of how to find these settings, as well as my current fan curve profile...

That's probably because you have a Lighting Node and not a full Commander controller. A Commander Core can be had for around $50 and offers some nice tuning options the lighting node does not. Apparently you have a Corsair case, which one?
