Hey guys,

when I power on my PC the first time a day, I sometimes ( happens like every few days to weeks) get no post and the cpu diagnoses led is red. I then switch the psu switch off and on again and power the PC on again, then it works perfectly. Do you have any idea about why this could happen?

motherboard: msi b550 tomahawk

cpu: ryzen 9 5900x

ram: 32 gigs trident z neo 3600 mhz

gpu: 3080 from gigabyte

power supply: 850 watts from Msi not sure which model though

Maybe it’s also worth knowing I have an ”extension socket“ (not sure if that’s the right word) and switch both it’s and the psu‘s switch off at night.

Power strip / extension cord?

Spoiler

Anyhow there really is no need to switch off your PSU every night, in fact it could actually be bad for your PSU.
Here is a thread for you to read:

Keep the PSU plugged in / switched on, see if that fixes the issue for you.
Obviously if you are planning on traveling / being away from home for several day then do unplug it... just not every night heh.

Ok thank you very much. Is a power strip the same as an extension cord? (Guess I should have been learning my English vocabulary the last few years)😂

You are welcome. 🙂

The main difference between the two is in the purpose:
- Power strip multiplies the number of electrical outlets from a single source.
- Extension cord stretches out a power source to a distant appliance.

But lots of people use "extension cord" to describe both extension cords and power strips:

Rarely will you hear someone say "power strip" to describe an extension cord. All of these are power strips:

That being said, all power strips kinda extend your range, some can even have a really long cable heh.
Also, it is hard to differentiate the two sometimes, like in the 1st picture - bottom left:

Not great at providing multiple sockets (just two), but on the other hand, it does extend the range quite a bit... IMO it wouldn't be wrong to call this thing an extension cord instead of power strip.
