I5 11400f is just 20$ behind the i5 12400 I don't know if the Mobo difference is significant. They are garbage in what regard? They don't have xmp for ram or could fry my CPU?

Garbage as in their VRMs are insufficient for mid-range and higher-end CPUs, which is going to result in higher temps and throttling and so reduced performance.

The feature sets are also often cut down, with lower quality audio, fewer USB ports, fewer fan headers, less PCIe, etc., but to be fair, that's only really an issue if you happen to need those features.

Hi, I play mostly competitive fps games at low settings 1080p (warzone, apex..) to reach 120fps.

I currently have an i58400 with a 1070 ti and I'm suffering from low 1% fps, I cant upgrade the GPU due to inflated prices. So I'm wondering which upgrade is better value:

I5-10400f with MSI B560M-A pro costs 260$

I5-12400(cant find f version) with Asus prime B660M-A costs 360$

I5-12400(cant find f version) with Biostar B660 MX-E costs/ ASRock B660M-HDV(same price) 320$ (many advised against these 2 boards)

IS the extra 60-100$ for the i5 12400 worth it? speceficically for low 1% fps

THANKS

What about 11400(F)? It's often priced similar to a 10400F

Between these I'd get the Asus + 12400F. Biostar is garbage and Asrock hasn't been great either recently

When playing games, is GPU usage above 95? If so upgrading the CPU won't help you fix your issue.

I5 11400f is just 20$ behind the i5 12400 I don't know if the Mobo difference is significant. They are garbage in what regard? They don't have xmp for ram or could fry my CPU?

Thanks for the details, now it makes sense..but this throttling happens in games also? Like on my i5 8400 I never go above 65c in games while using the cheapest 70$ motherboard in market

I'm referring to the temperature of the VRM components on the motherboard, which is separate from the CPU temperature, but will result in VRM throttling if too high.

first off, where are you from? that can give us an idea on the best deals where you live.

second, if the price is decent, take a look at the i3-12100(F). It will beat a 10400 in all core performance while having a ton more single core performance.

The 12400 and the asus board would be the best then.
