Pretty sure that is bad for an FX CPU. That temperature is too high for that chip. For future reference, when you are googling something, include the hardware you have. Meaning, dont just search for "is 70c ok for cpu" instead search for "is 70c acceptable for fx-6300".

4.4g is slow asf for fx, id atleast expect 4.8g on proper cooling, 5g is also possible but i think requires 1.5v+ so hard to cool

At those volts youd wanna stay below 80c for stability reasons

Do I lower the core clock in BIOS? Its at x22 rn I was thinking x21 x21.5 or even lower if needed

Lol, 3 minutes of testing and even so your CPU is hitting 90c. Test length is too short to call it "stable", single test method is also IMHO not acceptable.

Test longer and lower temps. Test more than once.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

  1. CPU is running too hot. What you can do is: reduce your overclock, change the thermal paste, change the cooler, change the case.
  2. 3 minutes of testing is not testing.
  3. Use different stress tests, (prime95, linx, aida64) and for MUCH longer (I am talking couple of hours at least).

Ill do a 30minute test for tonight I lowered the CPU Voltage in bios it was up and I didnt notice hopefully that fixes it.

You don't need hardcore testing for hours with several different programs as long as you're fine with occasional crashes. Just OC and use it as you would, if there's a crash, dial it back a bit. You may stress that poor old thing enough to kill it before you even get to use it.

Keep in mind FX cpu's have a strange thermal monitor... if your idle temps are below ambient find a different tool. Not sure if HWMonitor has fixed this by now or not.

FX ideally is below 70°C on a manual OC.

Main: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti, 16 GB 4400 MHz DDR4 Fedora 38 x86_64

Secondary: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G, 16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4, Fedora 38 x86_64

Server: AMD Athlon PRO 3125GE, 32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4 ECC, TrueNAS Core 13.0-U5.1

Home Laptop: Intel Core i5-L16G7, 8 GB 4267 MHz LPDDR4x, Windows 11 Home 22H2 x86_64

Work Laptop: Intel Core i7-10510U, NVIDIA Quadro P520, 8 GB 2667 MHz DDR4, Windows 10 Pro 22H2 x86_64

by having a strange thermal monitors it means it shows more or less degrees or both

If you were in the states I actually might. I have seen Ryzen 1600 etc. systems for like 50 bucks for the whole gosh darn thing. I didn't think anybody used FX cpus anymore now that you can grab old used ryzen gen 1/skylake era chips/systems for the price of a nice dinner

It can be both, generally inconsistent, and it gets worse the farther from Tjmax it is. IIRC it's propertairy algorythm that AMD used, so only monitors that were built with FX in mind can properly read it...
