New PC Build

Go to solution Solved by KingTdiGGiTTy,

On this budget I honestly recommend shopping used for CPU and MOBO, unless you are serious about upgrading on the same platform within the next year or two.

Budget (including currency): £530

Country: England

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Blender, Photoshop, Minecraft WITH SHADERS AND MODS, Discord, Fortnite, Warface, Roblox, Opera GX, YouTube

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Hi, I want to build a new gaming pc, and I have made a list of parts that I want, but I need somebody to review them and tell me any improvements or changes it needs. I want to be able to play at 1080p at AT LEAST a solid 75fps.

CPU: i3 12100F

MB: GIGABYTE B660M DS3H DDR4

COOLER: Stock Intel cooler

RAM: Crucial Ballistix 16GB (2x8GB)                 DDR4-3200 CL16

Storage: Intel 660p 512GB M.2 NVME

GPU: MSI GTX 1650 Gaming X

Case: IONZ Gamer Edition mATX

PSU: Seasonic Core GC 650W 80+                    GOLD

OS: Windows 11 Pro

This adds up to a total of £525

Peripherals (Separate to budget):

Monitor: Acer Nitro QG241Y 24" FHD                    LED Gaming Monitor (£75)

Keyboard: T-DAGGER Bora (£?)

Mouse: T-DAGGER Second Lieutenant                (£?)

I don't know if this is relevant or not, but my current pc is a HP Prodesk 600 G1 SFF with an i5-4570, 8GB of 1600mhz Ram, integrated graphics and a 500GB HDD.

Those 660ps are not reliable, I've had one fail and another that is now only used as a game drive for fear of failure.  Get a Samsung 980.

I'd prefer a 10400f over the 12100f as core speed won't be that big of a deal as opposed to having 6 available.  Either will be fine, but if you went to a higher resolution later you'd be happier with 2 extra cores as opposed to the ~20% (i think?) improvement in speed.

Also, A 27 inch monitor is a better bet as if you later got a 34 or 35 inch ultrawide (K I N G -tier choice if you ask me) it'll be the same height for aesthetics.  It's also slightly more immersive.

I edit the shit out of my posts.  Refresh before you respond.

The 12100 in some reviews is +-5% compared to the 10400, while in others it's somewhere between 10~15% slower, not sure about the reason for such difference, but it's 15%+ faster in Photoshop, it's also slightly faster in gaming and other common tasks like web browsing, even though probably no one would be able to notice any difference on those.

It depends on the main use for the system, but the 12100 is probably the better option, especially when you consider how much better the upgrades are in the B660 platform.

It's because photoshop doesn't really need a million cores, 4c8t is plenty.  Personally I'd get a 12100 as well for these use-cases, but I'm used to inciting a riot when I suggest to LTT users that quad core CPUs are still viable, so I've gotten into the habit of self-censoring, unfortunately.

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/4hwNPX

I tried i guess but still in complete shambles

If you want to fit the budget while having a decently futureproof system id reccomend buying cpus 1-2 gens used like ryzen 2000/3000 intel 10th/11th gen, buy used so you can get a price cut and still have a decent amount of cores and also buying used boards

Basically buy as much used stuff as you possibly can (except for storage) and cram that in a 3$ scrap office case, only thing to keep new is storage cause reliability concerns. For psus specifically no dual or more rails, 12v wattage no less than 100w below psu rating (watt = volt x amp), nothing over 10 years old, prefferably something with an 80+ rating, and no generic chinese unbranded or chinese brand psus (exception being great wall) cause they are explosion hazards

I have considered getting a 10400f, but I have done a lot of research and even done an LTT Forums post about whether I should go with the 12100f or the 10400f, and everybody was telling me to get a 12100f as it is both faster and newer, and will do good on the apps/games I will run.

About the 660p, I chose that due to advice from professional PC builders like ScatterVolt, and even Linus has used it in some of his builds. The Samsung 980 wi take me slightly over budget, and more importantly, has a lack of DRAM.

I personally do not like larger monitors, especially ultrawide, so that's a no.

Thank you for giving your advice, but as shown above, I did consider those options before you commented, and I have reasons why I stuck with my original parts list.
