840 EVO 120GB - suggestions what doing with this drive?

AzowiX

I was have this drive on some computer (Samsung 840 EVO 120GB) but right now upgraded to 1TB NVMe drive.

I dont think that have an option to sell this drive today - any suggestions what can do with this drive? I think outdated...

Also now have some Hitachi 500GB drive on this same system, this drive works fine but maybe 10 years old...

That is better to buy new one also and replace it?

Well you could keep it and use it for things like smaller programs maybe, or use it as a cache drive for your HDD.

Also if it's a Hitachi/HGST, depending on the design those are for the most part literally indestructible. It'll last another 10 years at least. (If it's a 3.5 drive with 3 screws on the head, those are built quite sturdily.) But if you need more storage yeah it may be time for an upgrade... (I'd recommend a newer WD Black/Blue if so)

Truuue!

My Hitachi HDD was made in 2009. Been powered on about 8.000 times and been on for nearly 40.000 hours. Still works perfectly. Same good read/write speeds as always. Is more quiet than my Seagate IronWolf and WD Red Pro.

I have a similarly small Sata SSD. I have it out of my system 'spare' with a custom high privacy fresh OS install, VPN, Tor browser, and drive wide encryption.

When ever i absolutely must ensure privacy and security, i plug it in and im of.

It also doesnt store any data im afraid of loosing, its effectively an 'empty' OS.

Example use:

if i absolutely need to download something im not 100% sure is safe, ill use that OS drive. if it ends up being a 'bad' download, for any reason, the drive gets wiped and remade, which doesnt take long.

It ensures that my main system only needs the 'best anti virus' measure, aka 'common sense', i dont need to clutter up my main system with a bunch of programs to ensure its 'safety' since anything that could possible cause a problem i can do on the other OS.

The other use u can use a small SSD for is to upgrade an old laptop that uses a mechanical drive.

So long as the laptop has space for 2 drives u can set the small SSD as the OS drive and use the existing mechanical drive for storage. Or if the laptop doesnt get used to store much and is primarily just a portable computer for browsing and documentation, then u can just outright replace the, usually large, mechanical drive with the smaller but faster SSD. An SSD swap in an old slower laptop can make a world difference.
