I'm building a server that will act as a replica to an existing home NAS. It will have a Supermicro X9SCA-F with an Intel Xeon E3-1230. It will have 2 shucked WD Easy Store hard drives in a ZFS mirror initially and possibly more in the future (in a few years, maybe). I won't be adding any discrete GPU to the system nor any other add-on cards for the foreseeable future.

I may be able to get a used RM550 for sale for $30 from 2014 or 2015. Only problem is its missing the 24 pin cable that I will have to source separately. In your opinion, would this be a good choice for my NAS or should I keep looking? If I'm not able to get this PSU, what would you recommended?

Thanks!

The biggest determining factors in choosing a PSU will come down to dimensions (whether it fits the case) and your power needs. A good deal on a PSU means nothing if it won't fit in the case.

I was really hoping for input on how risky using that PSU would be. If I'm reading the PSU tier list correctly, I *think* it's tier-C, so not too bad for a low end system. But still it is 8 years old. On the other hand, I'm not going to be stressing it all that much, I'd guess under 20%.

I mean used PSUs will always be concerning in general. Yellow RM550 is far far from good nowadays too

Is the Thermaltake GF1 650W non ARGB good? I'm not sure how to interpret the PSU tier list with "ARGB" in gold. Does that just mean the ARGB is a littler better, but the non ARGB is still good?

I decided to get a new PSU, a CX650F RGB, marked as among the best of PSUs in tier "B" of the tier list.
