So I sold a friend my old gaming PC had an rx 570 a i7-7700 in it. And now he wants to upgrade it. I am wondering what you guys would recommend upgrading first. I say the gpu because 570 is getting out dated but the CPU is going to be a bottleneck if we go for too new of a gpu we were looking at a 1660 super for GPU for CPU mabey a i5-11600k

IMO, i512600K Enable the igpu alongside the dgpu and keep the rx 570 a little bit longer.

it would depend highly on the use case an how the new user is loading the machine more than anything. would also be helpful to know what the specs are vs just the cpu/gpu

I got him a gigabyte ud ac z590 and gskill 16gb ddr4 3200mhz the only thing he does is play games

??? What is "enabling the iGPU alongside the discrete GPU" supposed to accomplish?

@Mal707 So you already bought the motherboard and RAM (when you could very possibly have used the old RAM since it's still DDR4) but now you're asking whether to upgrade the CPU or GPU?

11th gen Intel was pretty lackluster. I certainly wouldn't have invested in it. 1660 Super and 7700 would have been an OK pairing.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

This doesn't seem relevant to the use case the OP mentioned for his friend's system.

IMO There is some relevance. Although the video details benefit for creators and "intel CPUs enabling iGPU allows use of QuickSync feature (for video encoding/decoding)"  I have seen improvement in gaming. I have an older PC with a 1080 ti. When I enabled the igpu in the bios. I saw less glitching in some games.

So it sounds like you had already made a decision on the question you asked to start the thread. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
