I've got a Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 which believe it or not still works perfectly fine for the productivity and web purposes it is used for. It even serves as a place from which to access our music on our home network. But certain keys on the keyboard are basically non responsive and it's obviously a problem. The P key was always a bit finicky but now several others are having trouble. This is a very clean machine, we take good care of our tech gear. I just wanna know if there's anything that can be done with laptop keyboards when this starts to happen.

If not, what can one do with a laptop this old? Ebay? I refuse to just toss it. I'm in Canada if anyone knows of good places to send old laptops to.

Thanks!

Have you tried reseating the ribbon cables for the board? If you're lucky, maybe it just needs a reseat of the ribbon cable. Does the key itself have issues?

Otherwise, if you're up for it, just replace the keyboard itself.

Go to ebay and find a compatible keyboard replacement part (for example): Keyboard for Lenovo Ideapad Y580 Y580-US - US English 25203434 25207298 25207299 | eBay

Then follow the ifixit guide here:
