Hi, I have an issue that is really stumping me. I have a MSI B450 -A pro max motherboard and for some reason I cannot get a graphics card to work with it through a riser. If I plug the graphics card directly into the motherboard, I get display and everything works fine. If I use a riser, the card lights up and the fans spin but the motherboard doesn't detect it. I've tried with 3 different graphics cards and 2 different brands of known working risers to rule that out. Is it perhaps a bios setting blocking the motherboard from using a graphics card when it's using a riser?

I've tried multiple cards now. An 8gb rtx 2070, 8gb r9 390, 11gb rtx 2080ti and an 11gb gtx 1080ti. All the same results. Work when connected directly to motherboard, but when connected via riser, the motherboard doesn't see them

These ones

Ah I see, mining risers

You need to set the pcie generation to pcie gen 1 for these to work

Based on my experience with MSI board (b550 tomahawk), only the main slot pcie generation can be changed, so you can try dig around and see if it's any different on yours

What task are you thinking of running on the GPU?

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

What's the plan with the riser?

What's the brand and model of the PSU?

Which CPU?

To use the graphics card to get display. My psu is an Enermax mexrevo 1350w and the cpu is a ryzen 9 5950x

I'm just trying to get display out of the graphics card while not having to have it in the case

Then the riser would work fine, though that's a weird requirement

Either get a pcie gen 3 riser or try and see if you can set the pcie slot you want to use to pcie gen 1 (or 1.1)
