Currently Im running a Corsiar GS600w psu in my rig. There's nothing wrong with it technically speaking, absolutely no trouble is given from it. The only thing is the fan on it is a tad loud. Not overly so, but its always on. I'm finding myself to be a bit of a silence freak (Curse you Linus for getting me hooked), and when i can hear it idling thru my headset it does get annoying.

Looking for any suggestions that would provide a quiet replacement. Same wattage is sufficient, maybe with a couple more 6+2pins for PICe.

Current Build:

Asus M5A99X Evo

FX4100 @ 4.4Ghz / 1.38v (Watercooled, H60 w/ x2 SP120s)

XFX DD HD6870

8gb G.Skill Ripjaws X 1600 pc12800

1x 500GB Segate 'Cuda

1x Crucial M4 64GB (

I am whatever I am.

Is the PSU out of warranty? If it is, you can try switching in a different fan and see if that makes a difference.

Failing that, what are you looking at as a budget? Corsair's AX (fully modular 80Gold) and HX( Semi modular, 80Gold) both have fans that only start up at 20% load. I assume other brands do too. However if those are too far outside your price range, Silverstone Strider Plus PSU's are between $100 and $150, are fully modular, carry the 80Silver badge and aren't incredibly loud.

The PSU is out of warranty if I recall, but I want to keep it intact so I can possibly resell it. Like I said, it has now problems other then being an anti silent freak. Budget is somewhere in the neighborhood of $100-$150, or a tad more If i can sell the GS.

Swapping out a fan isn't a big ask - it's as simple as opening up the casing and replacing the existing one and while you're at it cleaning out the dust - especially between the caps.

That Silverstone will probably be your best bet then, to get anything that's modular and doesn't start up until 20% load and you'll be looking around the $200 mark.

Gotcha' date=' I'll start doing some in depth looking around then. Was just curious if there was a goto PSU for such a task. [/quote']

Corsair AX series is my normal choice for this sort of issue but it's out of your budget unless you can find one in good shape either second hand or refurbished..

I've been looking at the AX series for a while, I'd love to have one. Maybe I'll just save up for one and get one someday rather then buy a cheaper one just to save a buck. I mean, not like I *need* it now, so might as well wait to get the one i want now that I think about it.
