Condesnsation when sub-zero cooling

Srijan Verma

Whenever anyone is doing a sub zero cooling project, the topic of condensation on the motherboard/other hardware always comes up.
Is there any obvious downsides to the following idea:

  1. building a sort of an airtight glass box with air-tight holes for tubing.
  2. Fill the case box with something like pure nitrogen with no humidity
  3. or Have a hygroscopic substance in the case so it absorbs all the moisture.

It's been done by K|NGP|N. It's just not practical for a lot of people and is stupid expensive.

About as practical as the airtight box.

XOC is already expensive, and Vaseline, insulation, and shop towel do the job just fine. Plus, the whole airtight box would mean controlling the hardware is a lot harder, measuring voltages  is a lot harder, and changing out hardware for any reason (say binning CPUs) takes a lot longer. It's possible and for large multi GPU setups it can actually be a decent idea, but it's not necessary and most XOC guys are used to it the traditional way and would rather spend the couple grand they'd need to make something like that on a bunch of CPUs to bin instead.
