My ethernet connection to the mobile router is faulty somehow. Every now and then (often), the network shuts down and I have to wait 10-20s till it's up again.

I'd prefer having the cable over wifi if it worked.

So today I got tired of it and activated Wifi without deactivating Ethernet.

Do you guys know how my computer handles it ? does it use ethernet, wifi or both ?

Does ethernet still break down but now wifi takes other ?

It's weird, in the taskbar sometimes there's the ethernet symbol and sometimes wifi symbol

Windows, by default, will use Ethernet and fall back to WiFi but you may still notice a blip since it does not stay connected to WiFi but will have to authenticate when failing over. There is a registry setting to have both active at the same time and while Windows will use Ethernet by default it won't cause a loss of traffic when it fails over with that setting enabled.

Quote

1. Open Registry Editor.

2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WcmSvc\Local.

3. Create/change the fMinimizeConnections registry DWORD to 0.

4. Close Registry Editor and reboot.

Ah, might be something that changed in Windows 11 then or in later versions of 10. For a while you had to do that yourself.
