So, I’ve been considering a build, but due to income issues don’t expect to see it any time soon, maybe in Q3 at best

back on topic, does m.2 5.0 have the same bandwidth as PCIE gen 5.0 x4? If so, are there any u.2 to m.2 gen 5 adapters? (TECHNICALLY gen 4 will work the same, but I’m a perfectionist)

If PCIE 5.0 x4 is faster, I’d like some PCIE 5.0 x16 to x4 splitter so that I don’t have to give up 12 lanes of PCIE. It doesn’t really matter if it splits it into x8+2x4 or just 4x4, as long as it has x4, along with a u.2 to gen 5 x4 adapter

if it happens to not exist yet, I’ll come back to this at some other point

And I should probably disclose, I’m trying to adapt a p5800x to the asus z690 extreme, if the p5800x already comes with a pcie gen 4x4 adapter, forget I said this

shortened version: how do/can I adapt an Intel Optane P5800X to a high end board like the Asus ROG Maximus z690 Extreme?

Just saying, if you're having income issues, why are you looking at a $1200 motherboard. Especially since that board does basically everything wrong in terms of expansion options (it steals PCIe lanes from your GPU when you use the M.2 slots, a cardinal sin in motherboard design for anyone who even pretends to care about expansion options)

Rapter Lake will release around then, so that board will be irrelevant by then.

If you want to know how to do this, there are U.2 to M.2 adapter cards, though something like this would work just as well. There are ones that are advertised to do PCIe 4.0 on eBay, but it's up to you for whether you'd trust them or not.

first up, thanks, just about what I was looking for, only reason I preferred u.2 to m.2 is because I’ll have to sacrifice an x16 slot for it, and do you know about the other question (m.2 5 vs pcie 5 x4)

As for the issues with the motherboard, this was less intended as a question about build advice, as it’s still in the works (clearly), it was more around the idea of adding this specific part, which likely won’t change by then, or even by meteor lake, though I have no idea when/if Intel plans to release a PCIE 5.0 optane drive to the public. and the motherboard was just an example of a few I’m about to look through, it’s why I specified, “a high end board like the asus z690 extreme”

I may come back again soon seeking more information on motherboards, thanks for your input on that

Didn’t intel kill optane?

I may be misremembering but I thought they did it over a year ago now

edit: yea

intel killed its consumer optane drives January 2021

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

Oh, and regarding that, it’s not issues paying builds or anything of the sort of course, more of just issues with a very common issue, taking time to make money, so I should have probably specified that, my mistake

Don’t think so

Remember: they killed the other Optane ones, not the p5800x

That was ones like the 900P, this is the P5800X, it’s still available on Newegg
