Hello! So i decided to delid my 4670k becasue the temps are terrible and i can barely overclock. Im doing the vice method but it has not been going so well... So i took a hammer and a piece of wood, I used both small and big heavy pieces but i cant get the IHS off! Its stuck! I hit it pretty hard and also tried smaller faster hits but still nothing... Any ideas what the problem is? Should i preheat the CPU or sometthing?

Do not "pre-heat" your CPU... Just leave it... It's really not going to get you anywhere... What CPU cooler are you using?

I've seen people pry it off with a razor. Why whack the shit out of it when you can delid it by prying it?

The razor method seems very unsafe. Everyone is telling me that the VIce method is way more safer

i would say cutting it with a razor is safer than smacking it with a hammer.

You are indirectly smacking it it with the hammer :P

Idk man, its pretty easy to cut or scratch something on your processor with a razer..

Folding for LTT since April 2016.

well if you think of it like a glass window with some kind of glue holding it in a frame, would you hit it with a hammer or cut it out with a razor? as long as you have the razor flush with the cpu and cut along the edge rather than straight into the middle then you are ok. you can see what is underneath the lid from other peoples pics and videos, so you know where to take extra care.

Yes, but it's a pretty thick layer of thermal glue between the die and the heat spreader. As long as you aim your razor blade upward while you cut, it's all good.
