to sum this up.

system was set up as raid 5(4 bay nas).

manf said new update you will need to re set  raid.

(store data else where  at the time for said update)

installed update... there was a bug in it.(typo bug)

that showed  in correctly .

showing raid 0 as 5.

1 drive is going.

am i total screw with the data now?

i be even happy to even get 30% of the data off of it.

no family photo stuff was loss thru. that back up else where.

So you didn't follow the advice of storing the data elsewhere even though it told you to... Good luck. Failed raid 5 is not a trivial matter to pull data from...

So, was it raid 0 or raid 5?
If raid 5 - you have data.

If raid 0 - depends how 'gone' it is. If it's completely gone, all data is gone. If few bad blocks, you could salvage rest of data not affected,

raid 0.

i  able to see chunk of the data.

1 drive is going. pretty much. but the other 3 are good.

Pretty much depends on that 1 drive that is 'going' how much you may salvage.
