Hello all!

Jist finished building my first home NAS running TrueNas (easy in retrospect but hard to get used to as a first time user).

I built my nas in an hold OEM HP case and replaced the single 92mm fan with a noctua 92mm reduced fan as an exhaust.

My question is where else, if anywhere, should I put another case fan(s) in this case?

Right now I only have two 4tb WD RED drives but this case allows me to add 1 more natively in an hdd bracket and another 2 in the 5.25 slots with adapters.

I was thinking of cutting some holes at the top for 2 more slim noctua 92mm fans and maybe 2 more redux fans on the vented areas of the side panel (expand those events a bit more).

Would any of this be necessary if the potential 5 drive capacity were being used?

From experience with janky drive mounting in cases with awful airflow, all you really need to do is have some airflow going over the drives in some manner. Find a spot you can rig up an 80mm fan over the two-drive cage and whatever size would be necessary to keep drives in the 5.25" adapters happy. HDDs don't really need all that much airflow to keep decent operating temps.
