Hi

I'm looking for a workstation laptop for cuda programs / rendering.

Would a lenovo thinkpad series with a quadro k2000m make more sense or could i simply go for a notebook with a 870m/880m?

would I see performance difference between quadro and geforce?

EDIT: reliability should also be considered. i'm looking for something that would last me a few good years

As far as software compatibility is concerned K2000M will perform better than 870/ 880M. But, I would suggest you to visit the software's website and look at their list of compatible cards. Since K2000M is an older card, it is much more likely to be supported than the 870/ 880M but you will not be able to play games on your Quadro.

i'm inclined to choose the w350 but i was wondering if say i went with a more newer laptop with a 800 series gpu like a 870m would it perform better than the k2000m which is pretty dated.

is a quadro card really necessary for a mobile workstation?

I think you mean W530. Doesnt the W540 have a newer GPU?

No its not required but a quadro and its driver is optimized for all of the programs you mentioned. Hell ypu van likely get drivers specifically optised for certain programs like you can on the desktop card.
