Cant boot from m.2 ssd

Hello i recently bought a m.2 ssd (XPG S50 lite) i cloned my partition c and try to boot up from it . But when i got into the bios it wouldnt show up . I tried unplugging the hard-drive changeing the m.2 slot nothing worked. I have an asus B360-plus motherboard. The ssd manufacter said it would be compatible with pcie 3.0. Can you help me or do i need to get a new ssd.Regards.

Hi, welcome to the forum!

Motherboards have to support (and have enabled) the option to boot from an NVMe drive; booting from a PCIe device, as opposed to AHCI is quite different from a technical point of view.

There should be an option in the BIOS for NVMe support, try enabling that. I've heard that this needs to be enabled only if you're using RAID, but there have been cases like yours with similar motherboards.

Hod did you clone the partition C to it? (that would mean that the SSD is working just fine in the motherboard)

The problem is probably with the type of the old windows install. It's probably in legacy mode. (I'm assuming it's Windows)

If you try to just install windows from the installer, it probably will just work.

Also, what software was used for cloning, I seen some freeware clone software that would not clone boot sectors, basically just copy...

@Voythe program wouldn't matter (but please do post what did you use), on all freeware I used it should be visible to clone, but You are right. I assumed he cloned all system partitions, and I never should have assumed that.

On drives initiated in MBR it is possible, to have bootable system and only C partition, without any additional boot partition (I assumed that what was happening)
