So after a long and toxic relationship with apple mac i am building my first computer in 15 years, everything is fine until i try to start installing windows.

I have downloaded the ISO and put is on a  240gb wd SSD, i turn the computer on and get into the BIOS and select the drive and then reset only to be told i need to insert the correct media.

I thought funk it and tried to just install Ubuntu but can't even do that as it needs the RUFUS boot-load program which will only run on windows and i am on a mac.

I guess my question is how the hell do install windows on a new system, i have tried both down loading the ISO to my desktop on moving it to the drive and downloading it to the drive, do i need to create a boot loader like the Ubuntu one and if so how can i do that on a mac.

Maybe it is just me but this stuff should be a lot easier that this and it certainly was when i last did this.

System is a b550 aorus MB with a ryzen 9 5900x 32gb ram and a GT 1030

Any help appreciated.

You can't just copy and paste the ISO onto the USB drive as that doesn't make the drive bootable. You should be able to create a bootable Windows 10 Install USB using Bootcamp: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201468 / https://www.windowscentral.com/how-create-windows-10-installer-usb-drive-mac

Thanks, i feared this was the case, this is 2022 so why should i expect simplicity when complexity is king.

Unfortunately i have an M1 and thus can't run boot camp.

you can buy a bootable windows usb drive off of amazon for like 10 bucks. Ive used mine during plenty of builds. Make it easy on yourself
