LTT Backpack

EZimm555

The TSA approved just means that you don't have to remove some devices, like laptops, and requires that the bag can be unzipped entirely open, such that only the laptop is present on a portion of the bag. Even with these types of bags, they're still going to make you take out things like a Switch, iPad, etc.

To answer your question, though, no. Linus has already said the bag will not unzip entirely open. The arrangement of the tech pockets is such, as well, that a laptop wouldn't be by itself if you had other devices like a tablet. Doesn't mean you can't travel with it. You just will have to remove your laptop from the bag when going through security.

In all my travel experience, "TSA approved" bags almost always still need to have large electronics removed anyway, so there's really no reason to bother unless you like being able to open your bag that way (which is valid).

For US Citizens (and for our fine Canadian friends if they are in the NEXUS program) TSA PreCheck makes any bag "TSA approved" if you go through the PreCheck screening lines at the airport.  In addition to keeping your tech in your bag it also has the benefit of keeping belts/shoes/jackets on.

I'll also second with Anthony said, prior to PreCheck I had a "TSA Approved" bag (even had something stitched into it), rarely would TSA agents care and let me keep my laptop inside the bag.

IIRC TSA Approved just means that the laptop lays flat in a way that doesn't obstruct the scanners. Not sure how the approval process goes, or how expensive something like that would be.

Has any thought gone into making the backpack TSA scanner approved?

It's so nice to not have to take every thing out and just open it and lay it down.

If you don't know what i am talking about here is a like to give you an idea of what i am talking about.

I've never had to take my laptop out of the bag (post 2008), have also had my uncle's bag sliced open bc he had a TSA lock on it that they didn't feel like opening, so they shredded the bag open and then haphazardly bound it in duct tape.

If I didn't get my TSA precheck/global entry stuff on the ticket I have had to do it. Its really not a big of deal, considering all the other stuff TSA without precheck makes you do. I've had a bag that was TSA friendly (as there is no such thing as TSA approved, even with the fold flat thing they can still make you take it out), the full zipper was a pain in the butt and ultimately ended up being the failure point on that bag.  It's just a gimmicky design that reduces the structural integrity of the overall bag.

Does any one knows how heavy the backpack alone?

Question on the backpack...how easily does it fit a keyboard? (and what size)  I need something that fits something like a keychron K4 (need the num pad) since my work decided our unassigned seating didn't need keyboards.
