Whenever I try installing games onto my drive if the installer says that one gb has been downloaded file explorer says that more than one, maybe 1.2 gb has been taken from my storage. This becomes a problem when you get to 60-70 gb where instead of getting one plus gbs extra you get 20-30 + extra wich fills up my drive and I cant finish installing the game. I tried installing a smaller game and once the download is done the extra downloaded gbs go away wich is odd. Does anyone know what this is and how to fix this? Thank you so much and sorry for the bad grammar.

On Steam, for example, you download compressed data, so the final size on the disk can be bigger than the download depending on how much it uncompresses to. I'm guessing the increased usage that you see disappear after downloading is overhead from uncompressing and then deleting the compressed data once it's done.

Sorry if I am just really dumb but is that a setting I can just turn off because ive never had this happen before

I don't think so. What platform are we talking about though? Steam, Epic, a console? Generally the game's requirement on the store page give me a good indication of what it'll be in the end though. You can try checking there.
