New Router or Mesh?

I have a 3 floor townhouse with fiber. The provided Bell router/modem combo is in the first floor garage with very poor reception on the second floor and very very spotty reception on the 3rd floor. I have my pc in my first floor with a 50ft CAT6 wired connection running out to the garage. The house had a cat5e connection running to the second floor.

The townhouse has a small footprint so i think a mesh solution would be a bit overkill compared to just a stronger router and we are planning on moving in 2 years where we might need a different solution. I would prefer a best bang for my buck solution since i would go with a ubiquiti solution if we were planning on staying in this place long term.

 

If i wanted to spend less then $300 CAD on a solution to provide wireless to all 3 floors without disturbing the direct line i have running to my first floor pc what are the best options?

Its hard to say without testing/knowing much more about your enviroment, but something good on the second floor is likely good enough.

 

Since you already have a router, Id just get a access point, like the unifi ap 6 lr, then you can easily add a second one later on if its needed.

if i get the ap6 LR i would need an POE adaptor as well i dont believe the home hub 3000 supports POE but im checking it right now. unifi poe adaptor is out of stock.

I've never been a huge fan of Mesh for residential or small biz because I don't get what problem it solves. 

 

Unless you have a specific need for the extra 2 spatial channels on the Pro and LR I would just get a couple AP lites and a small PoE switch.
