Sorry if I posted this in the wrong spot

Alright party people. You may have heard about the freedvdboot exploit for PS2 if ur into retro gaming but I have a question for you tech savvy peeps. Say u wanted to play other games, not PS2 games, can you? If the PS2 won't read it directly could you sprinkle in an emulator straight on the DVD? Like how deeply can you do this. Could you go as far as to mod the game it's self to fix graphics or add items. Where is the bottom of this theoretical rabbit hole. I very eagerly await your replys

Well. Yes. It is possible. For example Free McBoot lets you run off the emulator on a CD, along with the ROMS.

As far fixing graphics or whatever... That is also possible, even more so considering you can find modified ROMS of Pokemons and many other games...

Same with bigger games on Wii, PS2 and what not. Simply need the tools and know how, to open up the games and edit the files. If the files are in special containers, you need extra tools to unlock, extract, modify and recompress them... I've done that before with Wii games and it was a pain and a half. Not worth it.

But as far as emulator and modifying games goes... You are MUCH better off using a USB drive instead of always burning new CDs all the time when you want to add another game or change something. Easier to troubleshoot as well.

Not to mention... We're in 2022. Nearly any PC and probably even your phone, can play PS2 games just fine, along with all the mods you can throw at it to make games look better. I see no point investing time into this unless you just want something pointless to do.

If you are willing to spend the money I would recommend just getting a wii and hacking it. There is a lot of support for WII emulators and you also have access to gamecube and a few N64 titles that run semi flawlessly. They also go for dirt cheap. I saw a wii at a local thrift store a while ago for $5.
