Decent performance from a good pc

I feel like my pc should be running a bit better in some games and maybe I'm missing something somewhere slowing down my pc. My friend who has a pc with lower specs was getting higher frames in a the few games we tested. I know its very nitpicking to complain about fps when still reaching 280 in valorant or 200 something in fortnite etc.,  but when the friend is getting 100+ more fps I cant help but think something is off. Any ideas for boosting performance or checking what is up?

Specs -

CPU: Intel i7-9700k

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 ti founders edition (drivers are up to date)

MOBO: ROG STRIX Z390-E GAMING

(feel free to ask for more specs)

What were his specs? How many sticks of RAM do you have installed? What are the temperatures of your CPU and GPU under a load for about 30 mins? Do you have all of your games on an SSD? What about your boot drive? Are you running at the same resolution?

I would say these numbers are normal for a 9700K. Chances are you're bottlenecked by the CPU as that should get these frames.

1. Have you installed the RAM in the proper slots (usually 2 and 4)?

2. Did you enable XMP?

3. What are temps for both CPU and GPU under load?

4. Do you have an overclock on the CPU/GPU/RAM?

5. What resolution do you play at? And does your friend use the same settings?

Fair enough, although I think the SSD part was important.

5. Why are you playing at 1080p for? 2560 x 1440p is which you enjoying games at anyway...

I would almost wager that you are either using Geforce Experience settings or some high preset game gives you. Resolution is not only factor, graphical detail is too. And if you allow GE or game determine those, they will use higher detail for higher end hardware. Another thing is that some background process might be reducing fps too. And last thing would be that unless you have seen the numbers live yourself, its more likely your friend is trolling you than that they are actually getting better performance.

Dollars to doughnuts, this^.  There's a difference between 1080p "low settings" and 1080p "ultra settings".  A MASSIVE difference, in some instances.

And yeah, an 80ti (10, 20 or 30 series)  being used for 1080p just seems like a criminal act.  If you really need the FPS, then I guess you should get that 500hz monitor and play in 720p.  But you'll need a CPU upgrade.

Personally I really think a x80Ti class GPU requires a 1440p/1600p Display. Otherwise what is the point?

As others have said, a 2080 for 1080p gaming seems a waste.

Unless the User actually has one of those new 500 Hz Display I've seen recently om YouTube Headlines. I have to wonder just how pricey those are.

I saw something about them too.

One would assume they won't be budget friendly prices.

They are really aimed at the e-sports, Valorant and CS:GO crowd, aren't they?
