Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming primarily, LoL, Apex, Valorant, not really super demanding games

Hey, looking to buy a new MB(TUF GAMING B550-PRO) and a CPU.

Currently have a GTX 1650, FX8350. Want a new CPU because I'm not even hitting 144+ FPS in League. Thinking about Ryzen 5 5600X, but will the bottleneck be to huge for my GPU? I might upgrade my GPU later so I want a strong CPU. Will the 5600X just be a bad pair for my current setup?

A 5600x should definite bring you fps up. With a B550 MoBo, this will leave room for a GPU and RAM upgrade in the future!

If you're looking for the best 6 core CPU, 12400. I wouldn't recommend 12400 due to it's motherboards cost.

For the same price though, you could get 12600k which I think is better value than the 5600X.

The best value 6 core is 10400/11400 (which ever is cheaper) with B460/B560 Board.

Intel has released their B660 and lower tier boards. Might be worth looking into. 12th gen is built for windows 11 so that's something to consider. Plus they use twice as much power.

12400 is a standard 6 core though, so I don't think you need to go windows 11 for it. Reason to go windows 11 for 12th gen was generally for the new scheduler for the p and e cores.

In normal use and game play at stock settings this is not so. The locked cpu have roughly similar power consumption as equivalent AMD cpu.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

So basically 12600K> 5600X ?

I've been hearing alot of praise for the Ryzen cpu's and figured I would finally get one, but seems not!

Both are excellent cpu. At the moment i5-12600K generally offers better performance. The performance difference is small enough that either cpu is a good choice.

I typically recommend the 12600K over the 5600X because it has 4 extra e cores if they're the same price. This will leave 6 p cores for purely gaming and have 4 e cores to take care of background task. Games will generally run much smoother because the cores won't be interrupted by any background task that happens to be running on your computer. Better frame times, frame pacing and 1% lows if you need some numerical evidence.

Most of the praise for ryzen is generally for the 3000 series. It was really the best bang for the buck CPU's for awhile. 5000 series ruined that with their premium prices. However, since 5000 series beat intel (not by enough to really matter that much), Ryzen fan boys started raving it over the intel fan boys. Another reason for the ryzen praise is the significant improvements from the zen to zen 3. It is a remarkable growth in their CPU line that AMD should be proud of.

In summary, both are good and there is nothing really wrong with going with either. Right now it's more of a "what's your favourite flavour of ice cream?" debate.
