How good is AI overclock?

e22big

I have Z690 Tufi Wifi board and it comes with this Asus AI autoclock feature. Heard from Jay Twocent that this basically made manual overclock a waste of time so I've tried it out and boost my 12700KF to 4.8 and voltage went to 1.4 v.

Is this a good result? I head 1.4 v is pretty bad for Intel isn't it? I am fairly new to CPU overclock so not sure what to think with that result but I dunno core temp shows that my 12700KF already went to 4.9 - 5 Ghz just by ramping up fan speed. I've also tried Intel XTU once click OC and it also boost to the 4.8, use a lot less voltage but it's not stable enough for daily use.

They tend to be good in finding the silicone limit with little work but it always adds alot of core voltage to make up for it.
Best to do it the old-fashioned way.

Then.. the 4.8 all cores boot they suggested is accurate? That's a let down, guess I loss the silicon lottery, I kinda hope to get it to boost to 5 ghz even just for fun

Idk, I;m sure not all gens are the same. Maybe they lowered it or the software found an issue, like dirty power or cooling. No sure of all the factors it takes into account. My last board pushed my 8700k to 5.1 and 1.49. Which is way too high and isnt needed for 5. But its easy to hit on that cpu. 1.32/1.35 tends to be where I end up for most.
