Hey. I have 2 ssds. One is currently in use but is brand new. The other one is used for more than a year. What would be the better choice? Should I switch to the used one so I won't waste the 2 ssds at the same time. Or the new one can just corrose. Even though it's not in use and it's lifespan drop down.

I have heard it over and over that unused tech can get damaged very easily. It needs electricity to keep going.

SSDs are probably the only component in a computer that you can be extremely harsh to and still continue using.

That is bullshit. SSD can lose data when they are not powered on for long time (one to two years), just use the SSD you are already using. Swapping out SSDs are rarely noticeable for %99 of the users (unless SSD is complete garbage), I have a 9 year old 840 Evo that still reports %78 health, I wouldnt worry about it.

Check the SMART information, it will say how many GB were read or written, or how much wear in percentage is on the drive.

I would say why not use both. If the new SSD is faster, use that as main drive for the applications and few games you play often, and leave the older drive for less important stuff.

That's wrong. A SSD doesn't need energy to keep data good. The bits will be retained for more than a few years, at minimum, with just the SSD sitting somewhere unpowered..

The issue is only one port is working on my motherboard. All other 3 are damaged. I want to save the new ssd for new pc. Was just worried that if unused it will get damaged.

9yo with 78% health..................amazing.............my 4-month-old 250GB Crucial MX500 (2.55TB written, 39 erases) reports 97% health............😬

The 9y old SSD probably uses MLC which has higher endurance ... mx500 is TLC and because of the low capacity,it's hard for the controller to do wear leveling , hence why the 39 erases instead of around 15-20 which would be expected for 2550 GB / 250 GB = 10.2

But it's normal... 39 erases = 3% ... so 100% would be 1300 erases ... typical for TLC that averages 1000....3000 erase cycles.
