pc starts but nothing shows

puppo

my friend had a pc for a while, today he had a problem: windows showed this: "nvcontainer.exe, error of the application". (he has a gtx 1060 3gb)
we tried everything: reset of the bios, using the igpu, jumping the CLRTC pin but nothing, tried to alternate ram and change it completely, we have no idea of what its wrong.

the peripherals (mouse and kb) dont get power, the monitor doesnt show anything even if the pc powers up completely. the components are:

i5 8th gen

Asus Prime h310m-a

Crucial Ballistix 16gb (8x2) 3200 Mhz

Geforce gtx 1060 (3gb) Manli

Kingston 512GB, Kingston 128gb (both sata)

ROG STRIX 750w

How does it show this error if the monitor does not show anything?

Remove your gtx 1060 from motherboard.

Connect monitor to your internal GPU through connector on the back of the motherboard.

Try booting PC again.

Does it POSTs?

Would tend to think it was an Nvidia issue, can you power on and enter bios?

I'm better at fixing people than PC's... For now.

using the igpu

They did that, i'm thinking (maybe a bit far) that windows fast boot is doing weird stuff together with an corrupted driver. Have you tried to disconnecting the SSD's and removing the GPU?

I could be dead motherboard. But since you messed with bios it can`t be said for sure.
Now I would check if GPU works by testing it in other know-good PC.

If it works, this would mean motherboard related problem.

Alright, I'd start from scratch, make sure every component is seated properly, CPU, RAM, power connecters, everything unplugged and reset in place. Remove the CMOS battery let it sit for a few minute to make sure all power discharged and try a power on again.

Do you have any spare hardware to test out components if all else fails?

Like MB, RAM, Etc.

What CPU specifically do you have?

Let's try and just have the most basic setup and work from there.

Have motherboard, CPU and RAM connected along with the PSU (leave SSDs, case connectors and everything else disconnected). Try boot while running off the iGPU. If it doesn't POST try installing the GPU and run off that. If it still doesn't POST I'm afraid you either have a dead CPU or motherboard on your hands.

If you have a local computer shop near you could try and ask them if they are willing to test/troubleshoot.

Please mention or quote me if you want a response. :)

Try and get a new cmos batter to replace the one in your mobo right now. They're not that expensive, probably around $10 usd for one. If that doesn't work then it could be a psu problem.

Another thing you can do is just leave it out entirely. Motherboard should still POST just fine.

One thing I will say is, I've never seen a motherboard not being able to POST because of a bad CMOS battery. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Oops my bad. Yea it's almost certainly not a cmos problem.
