Using second older gpu for multiple displays

My main gpu in my pc is a gtx 1080 for my main monitor and running games and my side monitors plug in through vga and i figured using a gt 310 would work better for them instead of using cheap adapters but im having trouble setting up both the gpu's at the same time and was wondering if anyone would have any solutions or if its not possible.

Maybe just use your integrated GPU (if your not using the second monitor for games) but if you don't want to do that, check if your mother board for 2 PCI slots check if your PSU has enough WATTS.

second gpu is currently in just cant get both to work at the same time its one or the other, my processor does not have integrated graphics and the gpu tdp so low i dont think any psu would have a problem with it being added to a pc.

There will be a driver conflict. The GT 310 won't work with the latest GeForce drivers you want to use with the GTX 1080 and the legacy drivers for the GT 310 are to old for the GTX 1080.

Actually just thought since nvidia doesn't let you have 2 different drivers at once would using an amd video card instead get around having 2 drivers since they would be nvidia drivers for the main one and amd for the older gpu or would this just run into the same problem or cause more

Most probably more.

If you planned to buy an AMD jsut for 2nd monitor, you may as well buy a low end nvidia from whichever gen that can use the same version of driver as your 1080.

Guess ill just have to end it here then because only reason i was trying it with such an old card is because someone near me is selling them for cheap on facebook marketplace.

If the using adapter works, just stick with it.
Since you said it's connecting through VGA connection, doubt you'll need high refresh rate on the 2nd monitor.
Which usually adapters can't provide.

I have a GT310 around that I almost never used, usually just used when I'm troubleshooting a possible GPU problem. Or testing out new system, etc.
So if it's really dirt cheap, me personally I don't see why not keep it around as a back up.
But that's me and my paranoia.

Or you know, jsut save the money, and use it to find and buy a used monitor with HDMI

If i use the current drivers for my gtx 1080 the gt310 just displays nothing and is not detected but when i use the older drivers my gtx 1080 and the gt 310 displays but everything is clearly running off the gt 310 so guess im gonna do the same as you keep it around as a backup.
