The two main reason on laptop are ram and heat. Propably ram so I suggest either doing complete wipe with fresh install or running CCleaner etc. On heating lifting laptop a bit so vents get fresh air makes wonders too. And blowing whole thing with canned air.

you might want to (if you know how to and it is pretty easy) open up the laptop and check for dust, i did that for my mom because her laptop was really slow and very hot to the touch, and i found i giant lump of cat fur inside blocking the vent from exhausting the heat, now if runs faster (because the heat was causing the cpu to throttle) and cooler.
