HDD/External HDD "Refresh"?

Wfz234
Go to solution Solved by Kilrah,

For SSDs that could be a good idea every few years yes, but an HDD shouldn't care.

I read an article that said HDD/External HDD must be refreshed periodically to make sure data still intact after a long time.. But other said no need to do that, even after unplugged several years.. Which one is true?

I booted my 40GB maxtor up after 10 years, no problems. The drive died a few days later though.

(Maxtor was notoriously unreliable so take what I said with a pinch of salt)
