My printer was working fine on my old computer but when ever I plug it into my new computer it fails when trying to install the driver (automatic update is turned on). I've tried downloading the driver manually but it has put me on a screen that says plug in your device and wait for updates to continue, but after i plugged it in it wont continue. what do i do? printer is a brother inkjet mfc j2 series.

Remove any driver software, discoonect printer and remove it from device manager. Boot pc and after that try with driver installer. Better get it from here to be sure its working http://support.brother.com/g/b/productsearch.aspx?c=us〈=en&content=dl

Only plug printer to usb after its so noted during installer. For some strange reason older printers are really kranky about this.

uninstall all the drivers and the go to the windows printer configuration console and manually set it up. WHen you get to the drivers page you may have to press the update button to gather more drivers. It should be there and install the correct one. In my case it worked fine afterwards

Thats pretty much all I can give. Do full manual uninstall, get offical latest version, intall and connect only after. Thats how I got one HP printer to work. But that was also back in XP days.
