Dumb question on rack server stuff.

Go to solution Solved by Lurick,

Just search for 3RU and 4RU server chassis or cases on Amazon and the like and you should find plenty that fit your needs.

Edit:

A couple examples I found:

Hello all, please let me know if this is not the correct forum spot to post this discussion.

So basically, I have a server built right now with consumer hardware. To save space and to upgrade some stuff, I wanted to move both my router and potentially my server to a rack mount set up.

So my questions were:

1. Are there are rack mounted cases you can get that allow consumer hardware, so not pre-loaded with hardware just a shell I can add my own stuff to in terms of mobo and all that.

2. If there aren't, am I kind of stuck buying from a store like https://www.theserverstore.com/ or second hand off ebay/craigslist?

Rosewill, Silverstone, Norco and Supermicro all make rackmount chassis that accept standard formfactor parts. Supermicro you have to make sure it's one of those however as they do both standard and proprietary

That's good to know. I always thought that supermicro's complied to standard form factors.
