I am in desperate need of help. Everything I try ends up with the same results. An error message and black screen on my primary monitor.

The issue is.. according to AMD Radeon Software (and any new game I try to play) there is a new driver available for my GPU. So naturally I installed the driver through the AMD app and once its installed I get the following message.

Radeon Software Warning

The version of AMD Radeon Software you have launched is not compatible with your currently installed graphics driver. Please check your system for other versions of Radeon Software that may currently be installed. A factory reset of your Radeon Software installation is recommended. More information about this problem can be found at https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/pa-300.

I followed said link and followed the recommended actions but my games continue to tell me I need an updated driver, and some of them won't even launch anymore. However if I attempt to update the driver, Windows tells me I already have the up to date driver and AMD Radeon Software updates cause the same issue previously mentioned.

Ignore what windows says about your driver, in the AMD software, always choose "Optional".

What video card are you running, anyway?

The thing about driver installation is, it's best to do it manually when required, and it's best to run AMDCleanupUtility (only if you're running an Intel chipset) or Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to rid your system of any trace of previous driver. Install a newer driver over an older driver, even with nVidia, and you'd end up with a hiccup or two.

First, do furnish us with the most basic of your system specs (like GPU, OS, PSU), it'd give us an idea of your setup and perhaps its underlying issue.

Now, IF you don't have DDU, get it, and before uninstalling the driver, disable WiFi or unplug your LAN cable on your rig, this is to prevent Windows from trying to install some crap driver after rebooting.

1. Ensure you have the latest driver for your GPU

2. Run DDU in Safe Mode (this is an option in DDU, you can check/tick this option, close DDU and restart), it should prompt you to go into 'Safe Mode'

3. After DDU has cleared up the previous driver, it'd reboot, now install the latest AMD driver (assume you've already gotten it from AMD)

4. After installation, you may or may not reboot, the driver should have been installed without issue.

It goes without saying that you should enable WiFi or plug back your LAN cable after all this.....

  • 1 month later...

I gave up, there are many solutions posted online such as this one I used but somehow windows just keeps finding a way to install some old driver.

On 6800XT Windows 10 Pro. I have resigned to just using Windows 10's installed driver which is from 2021 (by uninstalling AMD Radeon Software). You win Bill Gates, I give up
