Install Steam on your SSD, then pick a few games you use regularly or that take a long time to load and install those on your SSD too, then install the rest to your HDD.

you can use a steam game transfer program to move the game files and when you download a game you get an option as to where you want it to be saved.

K, so this is super easy to do now that steam supports having multiple libraries. No longer need to use Steam Mover.

This is how to do it:

1) Create a new steam library where you want your games to go on your SSD.

2) Find your games in your current steam directory that you wish to move and rename them to something, I just added OLD to the file name. This is in case something messes up you have a backup & can try again. You can delete the OLD folders after successfully moving everything.

For this example I'm going to move Bioshock from F: to C:

Renamed to:

3) After renaming the folders you wish to move, COPY them to your new steam folder. After copying them rename the copies back to their original names.

Then renamed to remove "OLD"

4) In steam, select the games you copied & tell steam to delete local content. Nothing will actually be deleted since you renamed the folders, it will just be removed from your installed games list.

5) In steam click the games you copied & now wish to reinstall. When reinstalling tell steam to install the game to where you copied all the games to. It will discover the folders & "reinstall" without downloading anything.

Discovering existing files:

6) Go back and delete the "OLD" folders from your old Steam library once you verify everything is working.

Note: You can skip the whole renaming part if you're confident you're not going to screw something up. It's only for keeping a backup in case something goes wrong.
