What case?

Id probably get a 4u 24 bay case, and put it on its side. It about the same size as a normal desktop case, and can be made pretty quiet.

And 320tb is 16hdds atleast today, so a normal desktop case won't like this.

Whats the budget for the whole build? This will be about 12 thousand dollars atleast.

What specific questions do you have? Why not copy his build? What do you want to change?

Id really go with a 4u case here, there much nicer to work in.

i have about $4,000 to $5,000 i was just asking if the hard drives had more of a chance of getting damaged in a normal case like that but ill check out a 4u case

The failure rate should be simmilar between a desktop and server case.

The high density hdds you would need for a desktop case cost more per gb, so thats budget won't get you that capacity in a tower case.

Id either lower your capacity needs or raise your budget.

So what are you full requirements? Speed? Redundancy? What OS?

Have you made a parts list of the parts you want?

so i dont know a whole lot about storage servers but i put a few things together i was planning on using either windows or linux and for the parts i was planning on using 7 16TB Exos drives, and a ryzen 5 Processor, and 2 250 GB ssds, and 16 GBs of corsair vengeance LPX ram. i wasn't really going for specifically speed or redundancy

What would the ssds be used for? Boot?

What network speed do you have?

Id probably go zfs here, put it in a dual parity setup, so you would have 80tb usable.

Id get that asrock rack board. Then you have a gpu built in, and ecc support. I wouldn't use the corsair memory here since ecc isn't much more.

What are you storing on this nas?

How much storage space are you using now?

How many systems are accessing this storage?

Why not just add a few big drives to your desktop instead of making a separate nas for now, and make a nas as your video needs grow.

This space seems pretty big for a home video project storage.

just me using it right now but possibly more in the future ive used a few hard drives which i think totaled 40 TB and i wanna have the storage separate from my computer. so in the future more people can use the server to
