Wireless Adapter Questions...

First of all before I introduce my problem this is my build which I plan to complete this summer. It has an Orange and Black theme to it I call it "Project CLU" From the movie "Tron: Legacy" Here's the permalink. NOTE: this will be my first build ever. EVER.

The problem is that I know I can't use that single PCI-E x1 slot because my Video card will block it once I install it in the first slot. I've seen in videos as well as build guides that if you're using a single Graphics card it is optimum to put it on the first slot. Is this true? cause if it isn't, then will I be able to install my Graphics card on the second slot and have the same performance? because if I'm able to do that then I'll be able to install a PCI-E x1 Wireless network adapter. Also I know that there are PCI Network adapters out there, but will it perform as well as its PCI-E counterpart? If these two "ideas" are impossible, what are some solutions to my (NEWBIE) problem.

PS: I don't want to run a long Ethernet cable through my house because this rig will be in my room while my router and modem are in the basement.

Yes, PCI WiFi adapters perform just as well as PCI-e.

You can install your wireless PCI-e adapter in any PCI slot.

Such as this one, the guy has installed his 8x card in a 16x slot:
