My New TF2 Funded, Living Room Gaming/HTPC Build - $538

stevenbogda

I shared this on reddit recently and found out the people here may also appreciate the build log.  I have seen tons of the videos, but had no idea that there was an actual forum!

So - I wanted to make a really cheap and really small machine for the living room.  I wanted a Steam Machine, but later changed my mind based on the prices.  Plus, I am starting to become addicted to messing with my computer.  I had about $700 in my PayPal from selling virtual hats in TF2, so I wanted to put it to good use!  I set my budget to $500 and was off.

I already documents the parts and build process on imgur and a blog, but I will quickly share my selection here:

CASE: Cooler Master Elite 110

MOBO: ASRock H61MVITX

CPU: Intel i3 3220

RAM: G. Skill Sniper 8GB

STORAGE: 1TB WD Blue HDD

PSU: Corsair CX500

GPU: EVGA GTX 750 TI

Here are a few random pictures.  I have dozens more in the above links!

Only went over budget by $38.

Probably could have avoided that by going with a less powerful PSU - but I goofed...

I love the little guy!!

I'm not sure I know who that is. Someone from LTT?

Good build, I like it, how's that 750ti working for you? Do you think it met your expectations?

It exceeded my expectations so far. I have a normal gaming machine with a 770 in it. I don't see as big of a difference between the two systems as I expected to. I am slowly recording gameplay of the latest games I own for that blog link. Gonna do Far Cry 3 tonight if I have time.

That's some damn fine photography! And nice machine too! Personally not a fan of the case, that line from Coolermaster always seemed too "cheap" looking, but to each their own! :)

Its actually the least expensive thing TF2 has bought me...haha.

Yay, Valve!

I got 150+ related pictures right here: http://imgur.com/a/IiOrY

Thanks!

I know what you mean about the case.  I had one of the normal Cooler Master cases and it had the same feel.  Like the corny metal mesh shit on the front and sides. I didn't like it so I got a Fractal R4 as a replacement recently.  It is so quiet and sleek.

I actually don't mind the Elite 110.  Its really small  and mainly metal.  It is sturdy which is good because I am currently moving it around to record test videos of random games on my desk.  It will eventually live 24/7 in the TV stand so I don't mind that its literally a big, black cube.

I should paint it with companion cube colors!
