Hi,

I would like to set up a backup for my pc, just in case something happens. Is there a way, so the backup will be a perfect clone of the drive and I just need to clone it back, if something breaks? For Backup, I could use a NAS, which is able to make virtual drives, that show up as individual drives in the network or a external hard drive.

My personal favorite, although it isn't free is Acronis True Image.

If you are interested in a free one, here are some I recommend and have used before:

CloneZilla: http://clonezilla.org

ShadowCopy: http://www.runtime.org/shadow-copy.htm

MacriumReflect: http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx

If your'e running Windows 7 or 8.X this method may be appropriate for you:

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/4241/how-to-create-a-system-image-in-windows-7/

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/7702/restoring-windows-7-from-an-image-backup/

Note that these will create a disk image which will need to be restored to another drive, rather than a fully functional copy of the OS on the target drive. I have used this method to replace an old HDD with an SSD without reinstalling :)

I'm surprised no one has suggested it, but AOMEI Backupper meets all your criteria. It can schedule full images, sequential backups, etc of your drives and save them in a local or network location. The default windows backup tool doesn't allow you to create backups to network devices unless you have a higher tier version of Windows (pro, ultimate, etc).

CPU: i5 4670k • Cooler: Corsair H100i • Motherboard: MSI Z87 MPOWER • RAM: Crucial Ballistix Elite 2x 8GB • Storage: Samsung 840 250GB SSD, 2x WD Red 3TB • GPU: EVGA GTX 780 3GB • PSU: Corsair RM750W • Case: Corsair 750D • Mouse: Razer Naga 2012 (I actually use the thing for productivity/media buttons) • Keyboard: Ducky Shine 3 w/ Browns - Green LED • Monitor: Asus PB278Q 27" 2560 x 1440, ASUS PB238Q 23" 1920x1080 • Lighting: 2m NZXT Sleeved Blue LED Strip • pcpartpicker.com/p/3cHfZ

Aomei seems good, but I if I correctly understood it, acronis is more like Mac Time Machine and will continually create a recovery image?

I will try Aomei out first. Thank you all for helping!

AOMEI is also free, but it works the same way. You can set it to create a scheduled image or just backup files directly. It also lets you mount images and pull specific files.

I just opened the seagate software, that I installed and never used. And guess what, it does exactly the same thing and it is from acronis. Someone give me a Face palm.
