First ever PC build, need help please!

Go to solution Solved by Quackers101,

yeah, if you got USB port issues then there might be a newer BIOS version that solves that. but updating BIOS can be very scary and if you would brick it by mistake or just because the system said so.

1.10 is a bit old yes.

1.20 was for "Support AMD Ryzen™ 5000 Series processors"

you can however likely update to the 2.10 or 2.00 (might be more stable) version. if you buyed a new motherboard check manual for BIOS install. it will say what name you need the file to be.

Okay, so I'm not new to PCs only desktops. I've been using a Razer Blade laptop that died recently. So I decided I was going to build a desktop this time around so I would be able to edit video and play games. Well, the build went super smoothly, nothing too difficult there. HOWEVER, when I went to start up my PC, I'm freezing at the ASRock splash screen. If I spam F11 when the computer boots up, I can boot into BIOS with no issues, it works just fine. The motherboard isn't showing any error codes, I really don't know what to do. Here's my specs:

AMD Ryzen 9 5950x

ASRock B550 Extreme 4 motherboard

GTX 1650 (Temp gpu until I can buy one at a reasonable price)

32 GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3600 MHz Ram

Corsair H150i Elite Capellix 360mm AIO

Corsair HX1200 PSU

All inside a Corsair 4000D Airflow case.

EDIT: I installed two SSDs that were previously installed in my laptop. One is a Samsung 980 1TB, the other is a Samsung 1TB I have no idea what specs. It seems similar to a 980. I know they're both fully functional.

What should I do, I'm kind of freaking out currently. I read the pinned posts, but none of them seem to line up with my issue

when in BIOS, get your BIOS version. Just to make sure if updating helps or "might" do so.

(also another thing, you can check if everything is listed as working in BIOS like the right amount of memory GB and so on)

Since you can get into BIOS through the GPU display port? I guess you are having BOOT issues.

What are you trying to boot, with what, old or new? (if older you might need to reformat the drive and any older drives that will be connected unless you get a backup).

But it's mostly you don't get a boot screen, and nothing else really happens or?

Thanks for the response! When I get into bios, everything seems right. I see my CPU, I see my RAM, I see my SSDs, and everything is looking good there. I did try booting from both display port and hdmi just to see what happens. No real difference there. I am trying to boot with a USB drive with the windows install thing on it atm. But I do have two SSDs installed as well, both 1TB samsung drives that I know to be functional.

When I turn on the computer I get all the way to the splash screen that says ASRock and from there I can choose my boot device and pop into BIOS, but it won't load further. When I try to launch the windows install usb, it get stuck on the Windows logo and doesn't do anything else.

EDIT: I just noticed in BIOS the date and time were wrong. I changed it, but there's still no progress. It did make it a little further but still freezes.

Second EDIT: So, a little progress from changing the date and time actually. I reset the PC and it gets past the splash screen. It now goes to a message telling me "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key_" Also, I did format the drives two ways, I formatted them in windows and just now again in the bios, it has a tool that wipes drives.

just a note, windows might install something on every drive connected so if they work, you dont need to have them connected. only the boot drive + usb drive.

I do find that the windows included USB drive can be trash, so moving their files to a new USB drive or onto the boot drive could be tried so long those files are not corrupted. but that you might find out, when trying to boot with another drive.

switching output shouldnt matter much, if you are already can get into BIOS, but it's eaiser to have control if only one display is connected.

I know, I was terrified. The only BIOS flash I've ever done was my blade pro's and it was kinda fool proof the way RAZER did it. But good news, BIOS update worked! I was able to boot into the Windows 10 Installation tool without a problem this time! Thank you so much for the help! You're amazing!
