I only steered away from the 12600K due to some growing pains that are still being resolved for the hybrid architecture (DRM, Scheduler in W10)

Hi, I'm looking to build a gaming/streaming rig. I have no clue where to start when it comes to picking parts, if anyone can help me it would be much appreciated.

I personally have some PCs set up in PCpartpicker for all budgets, but here's how you'd choose parts

CPU: you kind of just need to remember this by keeping up-to-date with releases and benchmarks

Cooler: Noctua makes good air coolers, that's about all you really need to know

Motherboard: usually doesn't affect performance, but you just need to be sure that it supports everything you need it to

RAM: you will want a minimum of 8gb, and 16 is now considered ideal, and as for speed/timings, 2000*CL/Speed=true latency

Storage: once again, you kind of just need to keep up with benchmarks and releases, but currently sabrent rocket is the fastest

PSU: you should put all the parts in PCpartpicker, and it will tell you the estimated wattage, but I suggest going ~30% above the estimated wattage, as it gives headroom for sudden power surges

Case/Fans: these don't change much, and everyone has different opinions, but you just want a case with decent airflow and bequiet! makes good fans, so do Noctua and (less so) Arctic, but bequiet is a good cross between silence and performance

with that in mind, here's what you end up with

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: Intel Core i5-12600K 3.7 GHz 10-Core Processor  ($299.98 @ Newegg)
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U12S 55 CFM CPU Cooler  ($69.95 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z690 UD DDR4 ATX LGA1700 Motherboard  ($199.99 @ B&H)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16 Memory  ($78.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive  ($159.99 @ B&H)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda Compute 2 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($46.99 @ Best Buy)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce RTX 3060 12 GB XC GAMING Video Card  ($750.00)
Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow ATX Mid Tower Case  ($79.99 @ Best Buy)
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA GA 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply  ($109.99 @ EVGA)
Total: $1795.87
