can't notice 144fps

my laptop is set to 144hz in gpu setting and windows says its running at 144hz but playing games ike csgo fortnite call of duty that are running at a constant 144fps i cant notice much or no difference going from 60fps to 144fps

i do notice a difference when using the ufo fps tester website

is there something in the games setting i need t change or something in the gpu settings???

Your monitor maybe running at 144hz, but if the gpu cannot produce 144fps you will only see the frame rate that the gpu produced.

You can tone down the game graphic settings if you want faster framerate like going for medium or low and reduce the resolution to 1080p.

Make sure the resolution and aspect ratio are set to monitor's specifications. Movements and all actions in games become smoother when you enable Freesync / G-Sync. Also, the framerate must match monitor's refresh rate, as i can see that you've mentioned that.

Do mouse movements in windows seems smooth to you? Also go to Display settings and check your refreshrate w/ resolution.

Movements and response in games can be affected also by the polling rate.

both your monitor, and GPU has to perform as needed to meet that requirement.

Also enabled in the OS if for some reason it uses a lower HZ setting (monitor settings in the OS).

 

You need the amount of frames per second (FPS) and HZ to be the same, like maybe 144 fps for 144hz. Some higher HZ monitors are worse in lower FPS games or you have to change the overdrive setting for that monitor (unless it can change it by itself or good adjusted overdrive setting). Changing overdrive if possible in the monitors own UI.

 

Also sometimes it just hard to know the difference, unless you actively go from one to the other.

You're probably expecting some massive difference like going from 30fps to 60fps but that won't happen. Beyond 60hz you start hitting diminish returns.

 

If you were comparing 60 to 144 side by side it would be easier to see the improvement.

Not in my experience - the difference between 60 FPS and 144 FPS should be immediately noticeable. After playing at 144 FPS 60 FPS feels like a slideshow.
