CPU Voltage accuracy

Hi, 
I am trying to optimize my overclock and I was watched a few videos, where Vcore was watched with an external multi meter. 
My mainboard does have two pads on the back of the CPU socket marked + and - so I guess this is where I would measure VCore?
I am using a MSI X370 SLI PLUS and a r7 3800x.

You should be able to measure v-core off one of the chokes.

Is it useful to measure that, or should I just trust the software readings?

Unless you have done a vcore modification and plan to use extreme cooling........ you can trust the software. Hwinfo64 works pretty accurately.
