Game takes up 18 Gigs of ram

LumpenBrot

Hello, I have an issue while i am playing the Game "Garrys Mod" in Multiplayer. The game runs smoothly for 1-2 Hours, but after that gets slower and slower until it just freezes. While it is freezing its using up 18 gigs of my 24 gigs by its own.

The game recommends to have 8 gigs of ram, so I dont understand why it is having that much trouble.

My experience with Garrys Mod is very minimal but my understanding is its essentially designed to have user generated content downloaded and added into the game? That sounds feasible that it could be an errant piece of content causing this issue?

If you're watching memory usage climb while in the game, its a problem with something in that game. Can you install it fresh with no modifications and try again?

One of the mods probably has a memory leak issue. The 8GB of RAM recommendation is for the game itself, not taking into account mods. Since the mods usually aren't vetted to the same degree as the main game, if at all, it's possible they have issues.

This is definitely a mod memory leak issue.

Which mod/server were you playing on, out of curiosity? The only GMod game I've played to any significant capcity in recent years has been TTT. It woudn't surprise me if it was one of the RP servers that was super poorly optimized.

It's entirely possible that I misinterpreted/misread your topic and/or question. This happens more often than I care to admit. Apologies in advance.
