Thanks for that! and what about the msi this is the motherboard I had in mind. But not upgrading my mobo till July

well the  Z87-G45 is for haswell (LGA 1150) and doesn't support your cpu. You have to get a LGA 1155 for ivy-brige cpus. z77 chipset is ivy-brige. i would suggest  something like this http://www.scan.co.uk/products/gigabyte-ga-z77-d3h-usb-30-intel-z77-s-1155-ddr3-sata-iii-6gb-s-sata-raid-pcie-30-d-sub-dvi-d-hdmi-a. or any decent z77 board. You can PM me if you have any questions at a later date or want anymore recommendations.

I'd leave as is, spending another £80/$100 to get 300Mhz isn't worthwhile.
