I have been using this computer with this configuration for years now and it's been a beast. As time has gone on I started getting random "failed overclock" messages (i'm assuming from using xmp to push my ram.)

Out of nowhere I noticed my ram went from 64gb to 32gb, so I checked my bios and saw that half of my ram wasn't showing up anymore. After testing all the ram individually and see that they all worked I plug them back in, but only half of them showed up.

After more testing I found that dimm A1, B1, C1, and D1 worked while A2, B2, C2, and D2 will no longer work. Rgbs light up on the ram, but the bios won't detect it. I popped the cpu out to reseat and check for bent pins (there weren't any.) After putting all my ram in the remaining working dimms I started getting bluescreens constantly and it has only gotten worse and after an OS fresh install and wiping the ssd's and hd's I still experience constant bsods. It'll even freeze in the bios at times.

So ultimately my question is: Does this sound like a mobo replacement or a cpu replacement?

I've been itching for tarkov and I need help!! Thanks for reading my first and hopefully only long-winded "help me" post!

Specs:

Desktop's age: 2 or 3 years
Mobo: Asus X99-E ATX LGA2011-3

Gpu: nvidia 1080 ti founders edition
Cpu: intel i7-6800k
Ram: 4x16gb corsair dominator ddr4-3200
OS: Windows 10

could be both, but I wanna read the handbook

just checking if your DDDR4 DImm_A1 is installed like in the Diagramm.

This is the way you should put them in if you have 4.

do you have your XMP profile Enabled?

-------------------------------------------

Right now I believe it could be unstable RAM, how to test it?, well Run Memtest86 (I believe that programm is called) let it run 2 times that takes a lot of time you also could just give your RAM more Voltage, be aware that might be dangerous and you need to feel comfortable to do so. you also could try running your RAM with XMP enabled or disabled whatever you hadn't running while it crashed.

My ram was in the third configuration in that diagram you posted and had been for years.

XMP was enabled as well during that time.

I'll try running memtest86 next time I have some time and see if that does anything! I really appreciate your time!

you could give your Ram sticks 1.4V while xmp is enabled. if you feel comfortable might stabilize your system.

it checks if your Memory is defect/stable,

I checked the mobo, it's the "Asus X99-E ATX LGA2011-3" i'll try and memtest86 running and report back with what it finds.

Also I turned up the voltage to the dram to 1.4v and windows freezing up and BSOD'ing is still happening.

So I ran memtest86... it got 7 seconds into and this happened and it froze 🤣 what does it mean?

I've also attempted to run this test a couple more times. It has gotten to the 16% pass twice but frozen everytime and hasn't made it passed that mark.

now comes the annoying part, you have to test each and every RAM. You pull every one out and put one of those into DIMM_D1 and start the test again until you find the one or two that makes the problem.

 BUT before you do so

Try the test without XMP enabled, all of them plugged in.
it might that your XMP Profile is leads to the problem. CMT32GX4M2C320 - is your RAM Modul

did you Overclock the cpu?

I only enabled xmp. I tried the "gaming profile" in my bios for overclocking.

I updated my bios and now the test is running fine. This may have all just been a big ol rookie mistake. The test has been running for 30 minites with no errors. After the test is finished i'm going to go back and check the dimm port that werent working previously to see if this bios update was the root of all of this.

well technically the abcd_1 are the ones you should use with 4 RAM-sticks, well at least the manual says so.that doesn't mean they are broken, your mobo is just telling you to use them.

WHY you should use ABCD_1 because you want to run your RAM in DUAL mode because of way better performance.

you can check that with CPU-Z.

could be, or a compatibility issue you ran into with a Windows update and now your mobo is like wtf hell no, and with a new bios update everything works again.

or a setting that survived the load default setting. Or your Motherboard now handles your XMP different because of the update

there are tons of possibilities.

BTW I was sooo sure that you wrote somewhere that your bios is up to date or I would have suggested it.

While I agree it's optimal, the ram was originally slotted in the C1, C2, D1, D2 ports and it worked like that for years. I've also tried booting the computer with one ram stick in any of the 2 slots and it won't post. I also went and re-tested all the ram sticks individually in A1 and seeing if the comp will post. The computer won't post with 3 of the 6 ram sticks (1 of which was newly purchased)

are all of your RAM sticks the same ones? they have a long Number code on it something like CMT32GX4M2C320.

why do I ask?

mixxing different ram can lead to instabilities. Not all RAM is tested and found to be working on your Motherboard there is a list. Normally it shouldn't be a problem but sometimes it is.

I'll try them all again on D1 just to be sure.

All of the ram sticks are the name, same size, speed, and made by corsair.

Updating the bios made memtest86 run perfect but didnt solve any other issues.

I wonder that it even worked. but as long as it works at ABCD1 it is okay

this is your remaining problem?

I do think that is an sort of OC problem, Load your default bios setup, and xmp disabled as well as other Overclocking settings.

do OC your GPU?

we could make some tests,

Prime95 for CPU and RAM stress test

Furmark for GPU stress test

Cinebenchr20 for getting a score and see if your CPU is still kicking

You also could check your SSD/HDD via SMART, there is a software for every manufactore samsung has magic, I believe, and you can check the SMART settings if your HDD/SSD is still functioning.
